April Issues & Eggs Talks About Amazon HQ2 and Moving Forward

The Belleville Chamber of Commerce held their April Issues & Eggs event on Wednesday, April 4 where leaders from across the Metro East came to hear about what the Amazon HQ2 effort taught us and the path forward. Speakers included Terry Beach, Executive Director for St. Clair County Economic Development, and Sheila Sweeney, CEO of St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. After Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the company’s nationwide search for a new location in September of 2017, cities across the country went into a “feeding frenzy” in an attempt to attract the headquarters and 50,000 jobs. The sudden announcement didn’t give city leaders a lot of time to prepare. BELLEVILLE CHAMBER DINNER HONORS ENLISTED MEN AND WOMEN OF SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE

The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce’s Belle-Scott Committee hosted their 68th Annual Enlisted Dinner on Thursday, March 8th at the St. Clair Country Club to honor the enlisted men and women of Scott Air Force Base and thank them for their bravery, commitment, and sacrifice to our nation. During the event, four veterans were also honored as special guests including Robert Hahn (Army, World War II Veteran, Troy, IL), Chuck Poettker (Army, Vietnam Veteran, Breeze, IL), Tommy Stewart (Navy, World War II & Korean War Veteran, Fairview Heights, IL), and Jack Jackson (Marines, Vietnam Veteran, St. Albans, MO). Bob Dintelmann was also honored the first Belle-Scott distinguished civilian member award, The Golden Eagle, for his time and service. Downtown Gingerbread Committee Seeks Participants

The Downtown Belleville Gingerbread Committee is accepting participants for the Second Annual Corporate/Small Business Gingerbread Competition. Here’s how it works: 16 Participants will be accepted.  $50 entry fee. Price includes a preassembled Gingerbread House on a 2’x 2’ base. You will be responsible for your own candy and decorating supplies. Sign up for one free team decorating class at Toots’ Cake and Candy Supply in Downtown Belleville. Classes will be held in October & November, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm. Turn in your creation before November 20th  to be eligible for the $500.00 prize for your favorite charity. Entries will win by popular vote, so the more people in your network, the better. Entries will be revealed 11/25. Winners will be announced 12/15. The houses will stay in the downtown until the end of the year….

The Education Committee’s annual Back to School Fun Fair is August 2

Help the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce Education Committee celebrate the start of a new school year at the Back to School Fun Fair! The event will take place from 5-7pm on Wednesday, August 2nd at Belleville West High School.
