Cathedral of St. Peter
The 1853 Gothic Revival
cathedral in downtown Belleville is the largest and
one of the oldest cathedrals in Illinois modeled
after the cathedral of Exeter in England. It is the
Mother Church of Southern Illinois and home to the
Diocese of Belleville. Tours are free.

Eckert’s Country Store and Farms

Emma Kunz House
Today the Emma Kunz House in
Belleville is considered the oldest Greek Revival
style home in Illinois. When it was built in 1830 it
was one of many row houses in Belleville that
featured Greek Revival architecture. Over the years,
however, all of the other houses have been destroyed
or altered, leaving the Kunz House as unique.

Gustave
Koerner House Museum
Gustave Koerner first built his Belleville home, an
imposing Greek Revival structure, in 1849, and
rebuilt it in 1854 after a devastating fire. With
his stature as
an
intellectual and statesman and the home's location
at the main entrance to Belleville's National
Historic District, the house has incalculable value
as a historic property. Once restored, it will take
its rightful place among the crown jewels of
Illinois historic sites.

Labor & Industry
Museum
The only public institution
devoted to the history of labor and industry of
Belleville and southwestern Illinois. Belleville
was one of the most significant centers for the
growth of Illinois industry, which ranked third in
the nation in the late 19th century.

Lincoln Theatre
Opening October 6, 1921 with four acts of vaudeville
and a silent movie, “The Old Nest,” the Lincoln
Theatre soon became southern Illinois’ premier
theatre. Admission for adults was 27¢ for the
balcony and 36¢ for the main floor. On January
10, 1922, the St. Clair County Historical Society
presented a bronze plaque to be placed on the
theatre building commemorating Charles Dickens’ stay
at the Mansion House Hotel. The Mansion House
Hotel stood on the same site as the Lincoln Theatre.

Our Lady of
the Snows, National Shrine
The nation’s largest outdoors
shrine, the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows
is the perfect place for a family visit or a great
location for your next meeting or event. The shrine
hosts its annual
Way of Lights between
mid-November and the first week in January,
illuminating the Shrine’s 200 acres with more than
one million lights. The “Journey to Bethlehem” is
told through a mile-and-a-half route. As visitors
drive into this fantasy of lights, they wind past
electro-art sculptures and life-size figures
depicting the Christmas story. Admission Free. The
Shrine boasts an award-winning AAA-rated restaurant,
an updated conference center, a AAA-rated 78-room
hotel and a 5,000 square foot gift shop.

Scott Air Force Base
Home
of the U.S. Transportation Command and the Air
Force’s Air Mobility Command, Scott AFB controls all
logistics of United States military in air, over
land and across the sea. Team Scott sets policies
and executes all air mobility operations. The
installation is responsible for providing United
States aeromedical evacuation capabilities, fly
operational support airlift in the C-21, and air
refueling missions in the KC-135. The base also
supplies forces to theater combatant commanders.

Victorian House Museum
Built in 1866, this Victorian
adaptation of a Greek revival home was built by a
prosperous German immigrant. The 19th century
furnishings in the home, made b y local craftsmen,
and the changing displays of vintage clothing,
quilts, and other artifacts, provide a glimpse into
the historic past of St. Clair County. The Victorian
House Museum also contains a history research
library, a gift shop, and the administrative offices
of the St. Clair County Historical Society. You may
reserve the museum for special occasions (weddings,
meetings, receptions, teas, etc.) Hours are Monday
through Friday, 10am to 2pm and Sunday 2 until
4pm, or by appointment.

Gardens
The William and Florence Schmidt Art Center exhibits
