Belleville's the
Place to Be
Art on the
Square

Held annually the 3rd weekend in May, Art
on the Square is a nationally recognized juried art
show intended to foster the appreciation of the
visual and performing arts to a diverse public by
presenting an exhibit and sale of fine art,
providing educational and enjoyable workshops for
children and promoting the importance of the
creative process.

The Nation’s second oldest
continuously performing symphony orchestra since
1867. This community orchestra serves the Metro
East area, providing performing and listening
opportunities for music lovers of all ages. The
Society’s programs include: The Belleville
Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonic Chorale, Metro
East Junior Orchestra, Metro East Wind Ensemble and
Chamber Orchestra.

As an arts organization, the
primary goal is to make a significant artistic
contribution to the residents of Southwestern
Illinois. This is done by maintaining a tradition
of choral excellence. Chorale singers are a select
group of auditioned vocalists, many of whom have
music degrees and vocal training.

Located on the Southwestern Illinois College campus,
displays works of art to be enjoyed by one and all.
The center features a beautifully landscaped
sculpture garden and walkway, four galleries, and a
reading lounge, as well as more than 350 permanent
exhibitions, traveling exhibits and displays of art
from both nationally known and local artists.
