Never Been Easier
MetroLink Light Rail Transportation System
www.metrostlouis.org
MetroLink is the light rail transportation
system that connects the bi-state Illinois-Missouri
St. Louis metropolitan area. The initial line begins
at the main terminal of Lambert-St. Louis
International Airport and ends at Scott AFB/MidAmerica
St. Louis Airport. The rail system first opened in
1993 and is now 35.4 miles long and stops at nearly
30
stations along its route.
The success of MetroLink has been overwhelming
with an increase in ridership of more than 100
percent since the first trains began running.
Pre-opening ridership was estimated at 12,000 daily
passengers, and was projected to increase to 17,000
per day by the end of the first year of operation.
Actual start-up ridership exceeded 24,000
passengers, and has grown steadily to over 45,000
daily passengers.

MidAmerica St. Louis Airport is located on 4,440
acres adjacent to
Scott Air Force Base near the
intersection of Interstate 64 and Illinois Route 4
in St. Clair County. The facility was completed in
1998 and was built as a reliever for Lambert-St.
Louis International Airport and is the newest air
transportation facility in America. From the
beginning, MidAmerica was designed as a “joint”
facility, meaning the facility would serve both
civilian air transportation needs as well as the
needs of military aircraft at Scott Air Force Base.
The runways and terminals are designed to handle
commercial airliners of any size as well as cargo
planes and aircraft maintenance companies. The new
10,000-foot MidAmerica runway is able to accommodate
any aircraft made today.
