Program Overview: The Leadership Belleville program is designed to expose participants to the Belleville community, its history, government, industry, and strong business community. Participants gather valuable knowledge and resources to enhance their effectiveness as leaders in their chosen field or profession.
The goal of the program is to build upon and expand leadership potential through educational programs designed to broaden the knowledge of leadership. Over a nine month period, participants will discuss the issues affecting our community, have the opportunity for exposure to leading business and civic organizations, and create in-depth discussion with professional, civic and potential leaders. All are important aspects that have an impact on ones ability to become an effective leader.
Leadership Belleville provides an avenue for leadership opportunities and to become more involved in the development of significant solutions within the community. Leadership Belleville also serves as a means to foster a commitment to community service which will benefit a participant's life, both personally and professionally.
Selection Criteria: Each year, twenty-five individuals from the metro area possessing diverse career, political, social and cultural backgrounds are given the opportunity to participate in Leadership Belleville.
Application for the program may be made by the individual or the employer. All leadership candidates, chosen to participate in the program by the selection committee, will possess the following characteristics:

A demonstrated leadership ability.

A demonstrated ability to reach personal goals.

A demonstrated commitment to the Belleville area.

Be able and willing to commit to attendance at all nine monthly course sessions and participate in assigned activities.
Curriculum: Following is a snapshot of the 2009-2010 agenda and the leadership skill theme for each day:
- August - Kick-Off Breakfast (Class Introductions)
- September - Two Day Leadership Retreat “Understanding Individual Personality Differences, Team Dynamics, Leadership Overview”
- October - History, Art, Culture, Religion Day “Ethics & Diversity”
- November - Law Enforcement Day “Conflict Resolution”
- December - Government Day “Communication & Influence”
- January - Healthcare/Community Services Day “Social Responsibility & Community Involvement”
- February - Education Day “Empowerment”
- March - Business Day “Organizational Behavior”
- April - Economic Development Day “Strategic Planning”
- May - Projects Day & Graduation “Reflection”
Course Requirements: In order to maintain the high standards recognized within the Leadership Belleville certification, all leadership candidates are required to commit the time and effort necessary to fulfill the following course requirements:
- A two-day overnight retreat in September focusing on leadership and team building skills.
- Eight full-day sessions - one Friday each month concluding with a graduation ceremony in May
- Assignments to be completed outside of the scheduled course sessions.
The 2009-2010 class is not accepting anymore applications, however if you would like to apply to be a participant in the 2010-2011 class, please call the Chamber at (618) 233-2015.
