Parks and Recreation
Something for Everyone
elleville currently has
22 parks encompassing 200
acres located throughout the city. The largest are
Citizens Park with 45 acres and
Bellevue Park with
27 acres and a three-acre lake. The parks offer
playgrounds, ball diamonds, picnic areas, tennis,
basketball and volleyball courts, an Olympic-sized
swimming pool, fitness trails and a community
center. Each has its own unique personality and
purpose. For example,
Ever and Anon Park, located
right downtown, is the home of Belleville’s farmers
market. Every Saturday morning throughout the summer
months, shoppers can find the freshest homegrown
fruits and vegetables for sale. Ever and Anon’s
gazebo, with its beautiful backdrop of roses, is the
scene of many outdoor weddings.
"Belleville continues to
fulfill the recreational needs of its citizens."
“We try to offer a little something for everybody.
We have an excellent pre-school program, known as
the Alphabet Academy. We offer various activities —
gymnastics, arts and crafts or some type of
educational class — for the younger youth, in
addition to the sports activities like volleyball,
softball, basketball, baseball and tennis. The kids
are just flocking there, and it’s great to see the
teens coming out and taking an active part in
Skateboard Park,”
Gary Hopfinger,
Belleville
Parks & Recreation former director, said.
