“Schoolhouse Rock” Auditions

7pm

SWIC-Belleville Campus Theatre

2500 Carlyle Ave., Belleville

(618) 235-2700

Bring theatre to life for youngsters this May! You could be part of Southwestern Illinois College’s Children’s Theatre Touring Company, which takes its 2008 show, “Schoolhouse Rock Live!”, on the road May 15-23. Director Jeff Blue will cast three male and three female roles to bring to life cartoon characters like Bill and Interplanet Janet, based on the 1970’s cartoon series. Open auditions will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 5 at the SWIC Belleville Campus Theatre, 2500 Carlyle Ave. Interested actors will be asked to participate in cold readings from the script and should prepare 16 bars of music for the audition. “This is such a fun show and so many people are familiar with the songs that teach academic lessons in a creative way,” Blue notes. “We will take the show to area public and private elementary schools later this spring. It will be a fun way to help teachers reinforce the lessons they already share with students.” In addition to the performances in area schools, the company will give two public performances at the SWIC Belleville and Red Bud campuses. Cast and crew members do not receive monetary compensation for their participation. For more information, call Blue at 618-235-2700, ext. 5451, or e-mail jeff.blue@swic.edu.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for children. Tickets are $10 for students with I.D.s. Tickets may be purchased on the day of the performance. The Box Office opens at 10:30 a.m., March 22. Personal checks, cash and all major credit cards are accepted. Seats are general admission.
